Memorial Dedication
Sergeant LouisR. Reyes (14 Aug 1979 thru 18 Nov2005)served in theMontbello Warrior JROTC program for four years. While in JROTC, he participated in the Marksmanship program and loved to compete. He joined the Colorado National Guard upon graduation in 1997. Assigned to the Army National Guard's 947th Engineer Company, Durango, Colorado, his unit was ordered to mobilize and deploy in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.While deployed, Sergeant LouisR. Reyes died en route to Ali Al Salem, Kuwait, when the bus in which he was riding rolled over on November 18, 2005. SGT Reyes diedat the age of 26. He is a certified Army Instructor and a graduate of the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Course, and First Sergeant Course. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star with(valor)Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. 1SGWilford is member of a local reenactment unit called the Buffalo Soldiers of the American West. The Buffalo Soldiers are mounted unit representing U.S. Cavalry units that served throughout the West in the 1800s and early 1900s. The Buffalo soldiers performhistorical and drill team presentations at schools, to community events, for civil organizations,parades and rodeos.
